What are the job opportunities for the economics department?
Our graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities in the private sector and public institutions.
Private sector: Specialists in the accounting and finance departments of companies, inspectors, auditors, and directors in banks and financial institutions.
Public institutions: Career positions in organizations such as the Central Bank, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), the Capital Markets Board (SPK), the Competition Board, the Undersecretariat of Treasury, the Ministry of Finance, the Turkish Grand National Assembly, and the Ministry of Justice.
In what conditions may I will be eligible to graduate from the economics?
To being graduate, you must fulfill the following conditions:
- Having taken all the courses in the program (at least 240 credits).
- If you are in the 30% English program, you must have taken a total of 72 ECTS worth of English lessons (about 15 lessons).
- If you registered in the 2020-2021 Fall semester, you can graduate by taking courses worth 242 ECTS.
- The absence of a course with an FF score
- To take at least 12 department elective courses.
- A GPA score of 2.00 (53.33 / 100) or above.
- Completing the internship.
What are the conditions for getting an honor certificate?
If your GPA score is above 3.00 (76.66 / 100), you are qualified to get "honor certificate", if it is above 3.50 (88.33 / 100), you are qualified to get "high honor certificate". Also, in order to receive a certificate of honor, you must not have received any disciplinary punishment.
I will not be able to complete the 4-year undergraduate program. What should I do?
You can apply for an "associate degree" diploma, if you have passed all the courses in 1st and 2nd grades with DD or above scores, and your GPA score 2.00 or above. But you need to delete your register.
I want to suspend my registration. What should I do?
You can suspend your registration for a maximum of four semesters, provided that it does not exceed two semesters each time, for health, military service, education in domestic or foreign higher education institutions, financial and family reasons. In order to suspend registration, you can apply to your department chair within the first two weeks of the relevant semester at the latest with a petition indicating your reason. However, if your reason for suspension of registration occurs after the end of the specified period, no time limit will be sought.
My suspension period is running out. What should I do to return to education?
Before the end of the period in which you suspend the registration, you must submit your petition to the head of the department that you want to return to education before the course registrations begin.

Whom the internship is compulsory for?
It is compulsory for all students studying undergraduate economics programs in Turkish or English.
What is the duration of the compulsory internship?
The duration of the compulsory internship for the department of economics is 20 working days.
When can I do my compulsory internship?
You can do your compulsory internship from the end of the second year (4th semester).
Can I do my internship only in summer?
No. You can do your compulsory internship at the end of the second year during the summer or semester breaks.
Can I do the internship in the summer term at the end of the fourth year?
Yes. You can do the internship until the fall semester registrations begin.
Can I take courses and do the internship at the same time during the semester?
No. You cannot take courses and do the internships at the same time.
Will the university find the place where I will do my internship?
No. You have to find the company or institution you will do your internship in. In addition, you can also take advantage of the Presidential Talent Gate opportunities (T.C. Cumhurbaşkanlığı Yetenek Kapısı)
Can I do the internship part time?
No. You have to work full time in an institution or company where you are doing your internship. Part-time works are not considered as compulsory internships.
Who is my internship advisor?
Your internship advisor is the same person as your course counselor. You can find out who your advisor is through the Student Information System.
How will the internship process work?
When you decide to do the internship, you must complete your compulsory internship by following the steps below:
- After completing and signing the Mandatory Internship Form (Zorunlu Staj Formu), he/she will make approved it by the institution where he/she will be doing internship, the President of the Internship Commission and the Faculty Secretariat, and then he/she will submit it to the Faculty Secretariat along with three photographs and photocopies of his/her identity card.
- Fills and signs the Health Aid Declaration and Undertaking (Sağlık Yardımı Beyan ve Taahhütnamesini) and submits it to the Faculty Secretariat.
- Every student who will do internship must make sure that he/she has an insurance against work accidents and occupational diseases, in case of being a non-dependent student, one must take out employment insurance together with work accident insurance to be covered by general health insurance, otherwise his/her internship will be deemed invalid.
- He/she starts his/her internship by submitting the Internship Evaluation Form (Staj Değerlendirme Formu) to the institution where he/she will do the internship (When the internship is completed, this document will be approved by the workplace internship officer and sent to the internship advisor in a signed and sealed envelope).
- The student fills in the internship book (staj defteri) daily during the internship.
- At the end of each month of internship, the student submits the Internship Scoring Chart (Staj Puantaj Cetveli) completed and signed by the workplace to the Faculty Secretariat on the 3rd working day of the following month at the latest.
- At the end of the internship, the following documents are submitted to the internship advisor in full:
- Internship book
- Internship Evaluation Form (When the student starts the internship, this form is given to the institution where he/she will do the internship. When the internship is completed, this document is approved by the workplace internship officer and sent to the internship advisor in a signed and sealed envelope)

How many courses can I register in a semester at least?
If there are courses you can register in, you have to take at least 4 courses in a semester.
How many courses may I register in a semester?
You can take courses worth a maximum of 45 ECTS.
I failed the elective course. Can I take another elective instead?
Yes, you can take another course of the same type. For example, if the course you are staying in is "departmental elective", you should take a "departmental elective" course again. If your course is "unrestricted elective", you can take "departmental elective" or any unrestricted elective course instead of this course.

Yes, although you are not required to attend, you are responsible for evaluations such as quizzes and classroom activities, etc., that are held during the lesson that are announced or not announced in advance. You are expected to discuss this situation with the professor of the course.
Until when can I withdraw from a course I took?
You can withdraw from a course in the 6th week of the course period with the approval of your advisor. Remember! You have the right to withdraw from merely one course in a term.
Do I have the right to withdraw from a course in first grade?
Under which circumstances can I not request a withdrawal from a course?
- If you you enrolled in 4 courses or less.
- If you are retaking the course you wanted to withdraw.
- If you withdrew the same course in previous terms.
- If the course you want to withdraw is a non-credit course.
How can I meet the lecturer outside of class?
Yes, you can meet with the lecturer whenever you need, by making an appointment by e-mail outside of the lesson or by stopping by during office hours.
What are the valid excuses for not taking the exam?
- Official institution report on the illness status,
- Report taken from private health institutions in case of emergency,
- A document regarding the death of one of the relatives of the student (mother, father, sibling, spouse, child, etc.) on a date that will prevent him from taking the exam,
- Document received from official authorities in case of unexpected situations such as traffic accident, fire, flood, earthquake, collapse, demolition,
- Document obtained from official authorities in case of detention.
I could not take the midterm exam due to my valid excuse. Can I take the make-up exam?
This depends entirely on the decision of the professor conducting the relevant course. The professor can take an excuse exam if he/she wants to. In general, there is information about this in course plans/syllabus.
I could not take the final exam. Can I take the make-up exam?
No. You can take the completion exam.
I could not take the completion exam due to a valid excuse. Is there any excuse for completion
It can be. You must submit your petition containing your request on this subject to the Faculty Dean within 10 days after the completion week. If the Faculty Administrative Board approves, you can enter the completion excuse.
Can I take participate in Erasmus or other student exchange programs?
Yes, you can. The department of economics has a direct student exchange contracts with some universities from abroad. Which departments/programs can I get a double major or minor education along with economics?
IMU Economics undergraduate program allows our students to get a Double Major or Minor without being under an extensive course load in other departments because it covers an extensive number of general electives. Economics undergraduate students can get a a Double Major or Minor education in all departments/programs if the required GPA and ranking requirements have met within the scope of quotas announced by these departments.
What are the general requirements for applying for a double major?
Students who are successful in all the courses that required to take in the undergraduate program of economics (until the semester they apply) and who are in the first 20% slice of the class with at least a 3.00 Grade Point Average (GPA) can apply for double major program.
When and how can I apply to a double major program?
You can apply at the beginning of the third semester of the undergraduate program at the earliest, and the beginning of the fifth semester at the latest. You can apply to the dean of the relevant faculty with the application form and transcript.
How many courses do I have to take to complete the Double Major Program? How can I graduate from the
The Double Major Program consists of a minimum of 36 and a maximum of 54 credits, alongside the major curriculum. In order to graduate from the Double Major Program, you must complete the compulsory courses of the department, and the 13 departmental elective courses. Also, 3.00(76.66/100) GPA is required.
Can I leave the Double Major Program any time I choose?
Yes, you can always leave a Double Major Program at your own request.
When and how can I apply for the Minor Program?
At the beginning of the third semester at the earliest and the fifth semester at the latest, you can apply to the dean of the related faculty with the application form and transcript.
What are the general requirements for applying for a Minor Program?
Students who have a GPA of at least 2.50 in the undergraduate program of economics (until the semester they apply) and who are successful in all the courses they need to take can apply.
How many courses do I need to complete the Minor Program? How can I graduate from a Minor Program?
The Minor Program consists of a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 27 credits. The GPA must be at least 2.00 in order to receive a Minor Program certificate that does not replace as a diploma.
Can I leave the Minor Program any time I choose?
Yes, you can always leave a Minor Program at your own request. In addition, minor education can be suspend with the decision of the faculty board of directors. In addition, minor studies can be suspended at the decision of the faculty board of directors.
