20.12.2025

Assoc. Prof. Tunç Durmaz, a faculty member of the Department of Economics at Yıldız Technical University, delivered a seminar titled “Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage: Economic Viability, Policy Insights, and Industrial Applications” on December 16, 2025, at the Meeting Hall on the 7th Floor of Block C, North Campus of our university. The seminar was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Faruk Bal, along with faculty members and graduate students.

The seminar addressed the economic sustainability of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies within the context of global climate policies. The presentation particularly emphasized the role of carbon pricing, public incentives, and regulatory frameworks in determining the feasibility of CCUS investments. Assoc. Prof. Durmaz discussed how CCUS technologies may be positioned across industrial sectors under different policy scenarios using the economic modeling approach developed in his study. The model results demonstrated the conditions under which CCUS applications become cost-effective in carbon-intensive industries and offered policy-relevant insights for decision-makers. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which participants engaged in discussions on the model assumptions, data structure, and the potential policy implications of the study for Türkiye.
